GPRTU rejects plans to integrate road tolls into fuel prices

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union, GPRTU of TUC has kicked against plans to integrate road tolls into fuel prices.

The unions say the move intended to do away with toll booths will in effect lead to an increase in the price of the commodity.

This follows similar reactions from the Commercial Road Operators as well as the Truth Drivers and Concerned Drivers Association who insist that any additional tax or increase in road tolls will collapse the industry.

In an interview with GBC NEWS, Head of Communications at GPRTU, Abass Imoro raised concerns about the lack of transparency in the collection of road tolls.

Mr. Imoro spoke about a new electronic ticketing system introduced by the GPTRU where some details of passengers are collected. He explained that such information is crucial especially in the event of an accident to enable the GPRTU to contact the families of passengers.
