The Ghana Revenue Authority has marked a transition at its Customs Division with Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan formally handing over to Acting Commissioner Aaron Kanor. The handing over comes as the Authority intensifies efforts to boost revenue and strengthen discipline.

The ceremony comes days after President John Dramani Mahama appointed Mr Kanor to the position. During the tenure of Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, the Customs Division of the GRA mobilized about 51.4 billion cedis in revenue, a 14 percent growth underscoring the division’s critical role in financing national development.

He highlighted reforms including the operationalization of the Customs Police and Marine Units, expanded training programmes, and welfare initiatives aimed at strengthening the institution’s capacity and morale.

Taking over the mantle at the Customs Division of the GRA is Acting Commissioner Aaron Kanor pledged to contribute his quota to ensure discipline in the division and also help the GRA meets it’s revenue targets .

The Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong commended the outgoing commissioner’s leadership, citing revenue growth, capacity-building initiatives, and infrastructure improvements as key milestones.

He, however, delivered a strong message on integrity, urging officers to choose professionalism over misconduct and reaffirming that the Authority will act decisively against corruption.

From the nation’s busy ports to its remote border posts, the Customs Division remains a quiet pillar of Ghana’s economy, where discipline, vigilance, and integrity ultimately shape how well the country trades, grows, and funds its future.
