Green Ghana Day marked in Volta region

By Jones Anlimah

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, in the company of Heads of Departments and Agencies have jointly performed a ceremonial tree planting in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region as part of the Greening Ghana Day project.

A minimum of about five hundred thousand trees were tipped to be planted in the Volta Region, as part of the Green Ghana Tree Planting Project.

The purpose of the Ghana Green Programme (GGP) which seeks to plant about 20 million trees is to increase the country’s declining forest cover and also help combat the effects of climate change in Ghana.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa urged the public and especially students in the region to make tree planting a daily habit to ”safeguard the depleting vegetation cover in the region”.

He called on the public to ensure that the wildlife and forest reserves in the region are protected.
