Workers of the Ghana Grid Company, (GRIDCo) have embarked on a sit-down strike over their accumulated debts by the Electricity Company of Ghana, (ECG), Volta Aluminium Company, (VALCO) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company, (NEDCo).

The action forms part of a number of measures the staff resolved to embark on as a means of impressing upon the State agencies to pay their monies.

Exactly a week ago, the staff groups of GRIDCo demonstrated and presented a petition to the Minister of Finance, however, they are yet to hear from the government.

Speaking to Radio Ghana’s Edith Atiaka- Eshun, the Senior Staff Chairman of GRIDCO, Dominic Annan, said they will be reasonable about their decision, should ECG pay GRIDCo the monies accumulated during the PDS’ three months suspension era as the government takes step to honour the 250 million cedis it promised them.

Mr. Annan indicated that no contingency measures have been put in place although the strike is indefinite.

GRIDCo is demanding 32 million 576-thousand-974 dollars owed it by VALCO as at September 30, 2019, the 607 million Ghana Cedis owed by ECG as at March 1, 2019 and the 177 million cedis owed by NEDCo as at September 30, 2019.
