A network of Journalists known as Journalists for Responsible Fisheries and Environment is asking the government to end the illegal transshipment of fish at sea known as “SAIKO”, to save the livelihoods of more than two point seven million Ghanaians depending on the sector for survival.

In a statement, the group says it is in support of ongoing agitation and protest against the illegal transshipment of fish at sea by fishermen across the coastal regions of the country.

GBC’s Kingsley Nana Boadu, Executive Director of the network, reports that “SAIKO” has been found to be a severely destructive form of fishing.
