Until 1994, the Nation’s Broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation(GBC) had enjoyed a monopoly with Public Service Broadcasting. The airwaves were subsequently freed to allow private radio stations to operate after some agitations. GBC currently operates seven (7) television Channels and thirty-three (33) radio frequencies which broadcast in twenty-five (25) local languages on a daily basis. As a premier broadcaster, high standards of journalism have been paramount in delivery.

The public however has criticized a not too captivating program line up over the years, whilst others like Mr Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament in his latest interview with GBC on the Breakfast Show, also praised the Management and Staff of GBC. He described the interviewer, Thelma Tackie, as smart, praising her for the excellent line of questions and her ability to be on top of issues.

Ken Agyapong also acknowledged the Breakfast Show set-up design as one of the best he had seen and said he would recommend for his staff at Net2 to learn from GBC.

Other prominent people like Professor Kwame Karikari, Founder of the Media Foundation for West Africa and also a former Director at GBC, also believes the State Owned Media has to be applauded for maintaining high professional standards despite the proliferation of traditional media organizations.
