China has announced plans to drop the government’s strict COVID-19 restrictions for travel in and out of the country.
From January 8, 2023, people travailing into the country will no longer have to be quarantined.
The move to drop quarantine measures for overseas visitors has prompted concerns about the potential for new sub-variants of the virus to spread around the world.
This, according to the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), needs critical attention by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), to evaluate the COVID-19 situation in China and advise travelers accordingly.
Businesses in Ghana are expected to resume normal travel to China without any restrictions since China is a major destination for imports to Ghana.
In a statement, President of GUTA, Dr. Joseph Obeng, urged the GHS to do “due diligence before advising the business community on travels to China”.
