James Gyakye Quayson takes seat as Assin North MP

The Speaker of Parliament, S.K. Aban Bagbin, has sworn in the newly elected Member of Parliament for Assin North in the Central Region, James Gyakye Quayson, as a fresh MP.

On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, Speaker Bagbin administered to him two oaths, Allegiance and Member of Parliament to the MP-elect and officially introduced him as the new MP for the area following the keenly contested by-election organised by the Electoral Commission on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

James Gyakye Quayson, on the ticket of the NDC, received 17,205 of the total votes cast, representing 57.40%.

Charles Opoku of the ruling party obtained NPP 11,389 votes, representing 42.0%, whereas LPG just managed 85 votes, representing 0.28%.

This occasion marks the official commencement of his term as the representative of the Assin North constituency in the Parliament of Ghana.

“On behalf of Parliament and behalf of other 274 MPs, I congratulate you on your victory,” Speaker said.
