The main Hajj rites finally commences today in Mecca. This comes after the successful completion of other rituals to reenact the sacrifices of Prophet Abraham and his son, Ismail.

The event described as the greatest gathering of mankind on earth will once again been witnessed today in Mecca, as millions of pilgrims all over the world mount the hills of Arafat.

This is where prophet Mohammed on whom be peace is said to have delivered his farewell address after 23 years of his prophetic life in which he won the hearts and minds of a people who previously would  have nothing to do with the belief in God.

Dubbed: “The hard hearted Jahiliyah Arabs, the Meccans at the time  exhibited the worst form of man’s inhumanity to man till they finally saw the light in the prophet’s message.

Today’s visit to Arafat is to enable pilgrims to reflect upon the final words of the prophet in which he urged Muslims to let their actions be guided by the belief that there will be a day of accounting when mankind will be brought before His maker to answer to their deeds.

The pilgrims will from Arafat proceed to Mudhailifah where prophet Abraham is said to have made attempts to sacrifice his only son, Ismail on the commandment of Allah.

This will be proceeded with the throwing of stones just as prophet Abraham did to reject the satanic intrusions that urged him at the time to reject the Godly call to sacrifice.

The rational is for Muslims to equally reject any satanic inclinations that may stand in their way in doing good.

GBC’s Ibrahim Kwarteng filed this report from Makkah.
