Statistics from the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate reveal a drop in OPD attendance at hospitals as well as reduction in childbirth and teenage pregnancies in the region due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This was made known at the Greater Accra 2020 Annual Health Performance Review in Accra.

The Regional Director of Health, Dr Charity Sarpong said majority of the health personnel posted to the Ada East and Ada West Districts in 2020 refused to accept the postings, which she described as worrying.

In response, the Greater Accra Regional Minister pledged to bring finality to the phenomenon where health personnel refuse postings to certain districts in the region.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service is to establish an institute this year to train personnel to take up leadership positions in healthcare delivery across the country.

This was made known by the Director of Public Health, Dr. Badu Sarkodie at the 2020 Greater Accra Annual Performance Review in Accra. Dr. Sarkodie said the Service will focus on improving staff capacity for effective healthcare delivery in 2021 and beyond, as government intensifies efforts to make Ghana a model of excellence in healthcare delivery.

CEO of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, raised concerns about the situation where hospitals rival each other to secure supremacy as the go-to healthcare facility.

The situation, he said, is detrimental to the individual seeking healthcare.
