President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will set up a special fund to support the education of children whose parents died in the August 6 helicopter crash.
Speaking at the third-day funeral rites of the late Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna on Tuesday August 12, 2025, President Mahama said the fund will help secure the future of the victims’ dependents, including the two-month-old baby of pilot Peter Bafemi Anala.
He described the tragedy as a national loss, noting that all eight victims were in the prime of their lives and played key roles in the government’s “reset agenda.” He stressed the need to ensure that their deaths were not in vain.
“It is a difficult calamity because those we lost had great responsibilities children still in school and even infants as young as two months. We must make sure the absence of their parents does not affect these innocent children,” President Mahama said.
The fund will be formally launched at the state funeral for the victims on Friday, August 15, where the President will also announce details for public contributions.
