An Accra High court has set the 19th of this month to rule on the contempt charge brought against the IGP, David Asante Appeatu. The court has given both the complainant and plaintiff three days to file any other arguments.
Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah-Dame who represented the IGP in a motion pleaded the court to set aside the conviction against the IGP. He stated that the alleged violation of the court order which has led to contempt was an order made in October 2017.
The Police was to provide security for the sale of a 12 unit flat but the plaintiffs, one Samuel Aggrey and Augustine Gyrate failed to issue a writ of possession to the Ghana Police Service to leave the property.
He argued that the failure of the complaints to provide such proof makes the contempt application inapplicable.
The AG went further to claim that counsel for the plaintiffs had no license at the time of filing the application for contempt but he denied saying that he had already taken steps to renew his license and received it before he filed for the motion.
