Historic durber held @Kyebi in memory of late Okyehene Nana Sir Ofori Atta

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Thursday, August 23, 2018, paid a historic visit to Kyebi as the special guest of honour at the 75th anniversary of the death Okyehene Nana Sir Ofori Atta who is recognized for the transformation of Akyem Abuakwa in the Eastern region.

Nana Sir Ofori Atta I, KBE was the Okyenhene of Akyem Abuakwa, one of the largest and wealthiest kingdoms of the then Gold Coast Colony, from his election in 1912 until his death in 1943.

The grand durbar which was held in Kyebi, saw a display of the Akan culture and tradition of the Akyems and the Asantes.

Barima Fredua Agyeman Okutumin, Osamkahene of Okyehene, described the invitation of the Asantehene as historical and one that signifies the strong bond between the two leaders.

“The Okyenhene wanted a special guest, and he invited his brother to become the special guest. The records that I have been given, this is the first time the Asantehene is coming on the scale in the public session. I am told in these mythical things of the past that there were strong bonds between the two palaces from way back.”

According to historians, this visit marks a notable event throughout the years in Ghana. Asantehene was hosted by the Okyehene, Osagefo Amoatia Ofori Panin at Kyebi.

Presdent Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is the son fo the land attended the event with his wife Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings  and The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye Snr.

Also present were The Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta, The Chief of Staff Frema Akosua Opare, Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Executive Secretary to the President of Ghana, Nana Bediatuo Asante and many other diginitaries.
