Government officials and stakeholders are being urged to support a visionary initiative to transform the Ho Airport into a leading aviation training and development hub, aimed at boosting Ghana’s aviation capacity and driving tourism growth in the Volta Region.
The proposed project, themed “Unlocking Volta Region’s Potential: A Call to Action for Aviation Excellence and Tourism Growth,” outlines an ambitious plan to leverage the region’s strategic location, favourable climate, and rich cultural heritage to attract international aviation expertise and promote economic diversification.
If realised, the initiative is expected to position the Volta Region as a centre for aviation innovation, tourism, and regional investment, while creating new opportunities for skills development and job creation.
According to proponents, establishing a modern aviation training centre in Ho will:
- Drive economic diversification – stimulate investment, generate employment, and boost local enterprise.
- Enhance tourism synergies – promote Volta’s scenic and cultural attractions, increase visitor numbers, and strengthen hospitality-related businesses.
- Advance aviation sector excellence – equip Ghanaians with world-class aviation skills to enhance the sector’s competitiveness and support Ghana’s ambition to become a regional aviation leader.
The call to action urges the Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and other government partners to champion the project by mobilising resources, fostering partnerships, and encouraging private sector participation to make the Ho Airport transformation a reality.
Stakeholders believe the initiative could create a lasting legacy, unlocking the Volta Region’s full potential, contributing to Ghana’s aviation development, and positioning the country as a key player in regional air transport and tourism.
“Together, we can unlock the Volta Region’s potential, contribute to Ghana’s aviation excellence, and leave a lasting legacy,” the statement concluded.
The appeal, led by Anku Adolph Alvin Etornam, outlines a vision to reposition the underutilised facility into a hub for aviation education, skills development, and tourism promotion.
The proposal comes at a time when policymakers are exploring new strategies to revive underutilised infrastructure and expand Ghana’s aviation and tourism sectors.
