Hundreds of unemployed graduates and other job seekers patronised this year’s Ghana Jobs Fair in Kumasi with the hope of catching the attention of Employers.

The job seekers were mostly tertiary and Senior High School graduates, some of them still searching for permanent employment five years after graduation.

It was organized by the Ghana-German Centre for Migration and Employment.

The Kumasi Jobs Fair is a sequel to the 1st edition held in Accra in May this year. The event was organized by the Ghana-German Centre for Migration and Employment under the auspices of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.

The Jobs Fair brings together employers and job seekers on a common platform with the objective of creating an opportunity for employers to choose from among a pool of qualified potential employees, while the job seekers get the chance to sell themselves.

A number of companies, both local and international show-cased their products. These include a range of services and available job vacancies for recruitment as well as the calibre of prospective employees being sought for.

The organizers provided the graduates in particular, a career and curriculum writing coaching to enhance their employment prospects. The Charge d’Affairs at the Germany Embassy, Helge Sander, said the existing Ghana-German economic ties is about half a century old.

He said the cooperation is to synergize the resources and energies towards job creation and ensure that migration of especially Ghanaians conforms to legal and international requirement.

The Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Bright Wireko Brobbey identified Greater Accra, Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono East and Bono Regions as the main sources of irregular migration among Ghanaians. He blamed the tendency on youth unemployment.

Mr. Wireko Brobbey said this is why the government, through his Ministry, is implementing deliberate programmes towards addressing the
challenge.

Mr. Wireko Brobbey commended the organizers of the Jobs Fair for the initiative and urged the youth to take full advantage of it to brighten their employment prospects.

Some of the exhibitors and participating job seekers spoke to Radio Ghana about the opportunities that they have identified.
