The Overlord of the Mamprugu traditional Area, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, says the creation of the North East Region did not come through the singularity of any human effort but by divine grace.
According to him, he owe President Nana Addo and the government a debt of gratitude for making sure that the manifesto pledge, of the New Patriotic Party of creating new regions, have come a reality.
Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga made the assertion at a press conference organized by his outfit in his palace.
The Overlord of the Mamprugu traditional area expressed his gratitude to the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his unwavering support throughout the entire process.
He commended the Minister for Regional Reorganization, Dan Kweku Botwe and the commission of enquiry for the creation of new regions.
He expressed his gratitude to Wulugu Naa Prof. J. S. Nabla and the MP for Nalerigu-Gambaga constituency, Hajia Alima Mahama, who is also the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development.
Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga expressed his satisfaction over the level of enthusiasm shown by the people of Chereponi District towards the creation of the North East Region.
Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga called on the people in the area to maintain the high level of energy and oneness of purpose which served as a catalyst for the creation of the North East Region.
According to him, the task ahead is herculean and daunting, hence the need for them to tie their loin girdles and apply themselves diligently.
The Paramount chief noted that the roads in the area are in a deplorable state, stressing that the story about is not different in the areas of education, health and water delivery.
He was optimistic that the resources that shall come to the North East Region shall be distributed in a fair and just manner. He appealed to his subjects to safeguard the peace they are currently enjoying.
This, he noted, will go a long way to help them leap-frog their development agenda. He admonished those who will be elected or appointed positions of responsibility in the North East Region to be prepared to serve the people diligently.
Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga charged the people in the area to rekindle the spirit of volunteerism and self-help in the various communities.
He said he will continue to play his role as a vanguard of their shared interest. He called on government and state institutions to appropriately plan land use in the major cities in the North Region.
Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga reiterated that the quest for the creation of the North East Region is for the purpose of driving their development efforts.
