Personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service at Bichabe, a border community in the Tatale-Sanguli district of the Northern region, rejected a ₵20,000 bribe and arrested two Burkinabe Nationals, aged 27 and 28.

The two suspects, who are currently in custody and assisting with investigation, were carrying 20 million CFA Francs which is equivalent to 283,000s.

A statement from the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service said the suspects claimed that they are businessmen who buy and sell rice between Ivory Coast and Togo.

“They offered a bribe of 2 Million CFA (2,000,000CFA) which is equivalent to₵20 thousand, but the Officers declined the offer. They indicated that when questioned, the businessmen said they went to buy rice from Ivory Coast to Togo,” the statement said.

The Ghana Immigration Service has also cautioned border communities to be on high alert and support the service to curb cross-border crimes.
