A visit by GBC’s Radio Ghana to some transport terminals in Accra, showed an increase in patronage of commercial buses. GBC’s Radio Ghana interaction with Transport owners revealed the high patronage is due to people travelling to reunite with family and loved ones across the country.
The month of December is usually a busy one for transport operators as the season of Christmas sees more people travel from one city to the other, to be with loved ones.
At various stations visited such as the VIP and the OA Bus terminals at the Kwame Nkrumah circle in Accra, passengers were busy making payments to ensure they make it to their destinations for the New Year.
The situation was the same at the Intercity State Transport Corporation Bus Terminal around the circle interchange. Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, a sales and Marketing officer, Bernice Amesha, said the station has since last night recorded an unusually high patronage. This, she attributed to the New Year.
She encouraged prospective travellers to patronise services of the station as it has enough buses to ensure a stress free journey.
At the Chisco transport yard, an International travel company, operators complained that the closure of the Nigerian border has affected their business.
Similar sentiments were expressed at the Gh. Express transport company, where operators said majority of their buses had been locked up at Kumasi, forcing them out of business on new year’s eve.
