Workers of La Palm Royal Beach Hotel have protested against their Managing Director, Madam Abena Pokua Boaitey Amoah demanding her removal from office.
The workers are among other things, protesting her refusal to implement new salary levels, which were to take effect from January 1, this year.
The workers displayed placards with inscriptions like ‘we are citizens not spectators’, ‘he who calls for equity must come with clean hands’ and ‘staff of La Palm deserve better and respect workers right’.
La-Palm Royal Beach Hotel is now a fully state owned facility, managed by the Social Security and National Investment Trust (SSNIT) after it bought the 30 percent of shares earlier owned by an Israeli business developer.
The workers after the protest on Monday presented a petition to the national Leadership of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, ICU.
General Secretary of the ICU, Solomon Kotei stated that a formal complaint has been sent to the Director-General of SSNIT and copied to the office of the President.
He expressed concern about disregard for the labour law and the Collective Agreement as a result of which SSNIT Tier Two Pension contributions have not been paid since March 2018.
Mr. Kotei said they will follow up with the issue to the appropriate quarters to maintain the right industrial harmony exist for workers to give of their best.
The demonstration was held simultaneously at all Golden Beach Hotels including Elmina Beach Resort.
