International Relations Expert, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has hailed the decision by ECOWAS to suspend Mali until February 2022.
The suspension follows the arrest of interim President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane, by military personnel led by Col. Assimi Goita in a coup d’ tat.
Dr Pelpuo disagreed with suggestions that ECOWAS should have caused the arrest of Col. Goita when he showed up at the ECOWAS summit in Accra on Sunday, May 31.
Mali has been asked to follow previous transitional road map and return the country to constitutional rule.
A communiqué issued in Accra at the end of an Extraordinary Summit condemned all actions that led to ongoing instability and called for a new civilian Prime Minister to be nominated immediately.
The six-hour closed door marathon meeting also called for the formation of a new all-inclusive Government to proceed with the transitional arrangement.
