A 25-year-old robber has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for stealing an iPhone 16 Pro Max and cash in a brazen dawn attack at Millennium City, Gomoa East.

Kolie Samuel was convicted after pleading guilty to robbery and causing harm charges at the Ofaakor Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

The Central East Regional Police Command revealed that Samuel struck at 5:30am on July 10 near Golden Pride Preparatory School, violently robbing a woman of her handbag containing a premium smartphone and an undisclosed amount of money.

Through swift intelligence work and cooperation from the victim, police tracked Samuel to his hideout in Ngleshie Amanfro later that same day.

A search of the suspect yielded not only the victim’s iPhone 16 Pro Max but also a trove of suspected stolen goods, including a Dell laptop, multiple mobile phones (iTel, Nokia and Alcatel models), two pairs of AirPods, a gold necklace, three wristwatches, and ten memory cards. Police also recovered a wallet containing a health insurance card bearing the name Kwapong Sahnan, suggesting Samuel may have been involved in multiple robberies.

DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, confirmed the conviction and emphasized the police’s commitment to public safety.

“The Central East Regional Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public by bringing perpetrators of such crimes to face the full rigors of the law,” Dosoo stated in the release.

In addition to the 14-year sentence for robbery, the court handed Samuel a concurrent 5-year term for causing harm during the incident. The conviction comes as Ghanaian authorities continue cracking down on violent street crimes across the country.
