Ghana’s inflation rate fell to 3.8 per cent in January 2026, marking the 13th consecutive month of decline, according to the Ghana Statistical Service.
A presidential aide, Rosemond Obeng, has insisted that prices have indeed reduced, dismissing claims that the current inflation rate is merely symbolic.
Speaking on Prime Insight on Friday, February 7, 2026, Ms Obeng said those who argue that the decline in inflation has not translated into price reductions are being dishonest.
“Anyone who seeks to say that the inflation rate dropping to 3.8 per cent is symbolic is not being truthful,” she said.
“It is glaring for everyone to see, from the prices of foodstuffs to cement and roofing sheets. If you say you are not seeing anything, then you are being selective.”
She encouraged Ghanaians to acknowledge the gains made and support the government’s efforts, recalling periods under previous administrations when prices of foodstuffs in markets could increase within the same day, rising from morning prices by afternoon.
