Jamaican Envoy presents letter of appointment to Foreign Minister

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has called for a collaborative effort between Ghana and Jamaica for the purpose of advocacy for debt forgiveness.

This, according to the Minister, is due to the covid-19 pandemic that has had adverse effects on world economies with emphasis on middle-income countries.

Madam Ayorkor Botchwey said, “the debt burden of middle-income countries, including Ghana and Jamaica, have been worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic, thus, making it imperative for both bilateral and multilateral creditors to consider a moratorium on debt servicing and payments in order to assist the affected countries to rebuild their economies.”

She, therefore, urged Jamaica to “partner with Ghana to advocate for debt forgiveness”.

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, made the appeal on Monday, June 28, 2021, when the High Commissioner-Designate of Jamaica to Ghana H.E. Esmond  ST. Clair Reid presented Open Letters to her at the Ministry in Accra.

H.E Esmond Clair Reid expressed appreciation to Madam Ayorkor Botchway and reiterated his commitment to working with Ghana in a bid to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
