Jubilee House to be solar powered by June 2020

The Jubilee House will from June this year be powered by Solar Energy, as part of measures to ensure all public buildings go solar.
The 1.4 million dollar project will generate 912 kilowatts of power to the seat of government.

The Minister of Energy, John Peter Amewu announced this when he inspected progress of the solar energy project.
President Akufo-Addo in the State of the Nation’s Address last year said the seat of government will be powered by Solar. It seeks to reduce expenditure on utilities and also promote the use of green energy.
The Solar power will cater for about 60 percent of the energy needs of the Jubilee House. By  2030, government hopes to install up to 200 megawatts of distributed solar power in both residential and non-residential facilities to reduce over-reliance on hydro energy.
The Jubilee House Project will include installation of solar PV panels with supporting infrastructure but excluding battery storage on the roof spaces of the Jubilee House.
In addition, there will be a designed array of new carports with solar PV roofing to generate additional Capacity.

The Minister of Energy, John Peter Amewu was impressed with the progress of work.

The Energy Minister said the project will be replicated in other government institutions.

The Contractor of the Project, Strategic Security Systems is an indigenous company which manufactures solar panels locally.
