Justice Anin Yeboa: CJ nominee insists standards will not be compromised in bid to reform legal education

The Chief Justice nominee, Justice Anin Yeboah has maintained that standards will not be compromised in an attempt to open up legal education.

He said an assessment of the faculties has revealed some horrific results and this will be made public soon.

He added that the General Legal Council is putting in measures to address these problems.

Justice Anin Yeboah stressed that they are working with the Independent Examination Council (IEC) and are coming up with a more flexible way, with regards to legal education but the standards will remain.

On Corruption in the Judiciary, Justice Anin Yeboah said the issue has been exaggerated. He said if anybody lodges a complaint at the Chief Justice’s secretariat, they will invite the judge over to be investigated.

On whether there is a need to have a ceiling on the number of Justices to the Supreme court, Justice Anin Yeboah, advocated 16 Justices to the Supreme Court. Currently there are fourteen Justices of the Supreme Court.

The Chief Justice nominee said there will be an expansion of the courts to bring justice closer to the people.
