The Police Officer seen in a viral video brandishing a gun has been interdicted. The Officer, whose name is yet to be made public, is a Sergeant with the Central Regional Police Command.
In a statement, the Police said after retrieving the weapon from him, he has been interdicted to allow for a detailed probe into the incident. The video showed the ununiformed Officer in a heated confrontation with another man on the road.
The officer during the altercation hit the civilian twice while brandishing his weapon. He is alleged to have pulled out his pistol after he was attacked with a cutlass.
The statement said the Officer lodged a complaint of assault against his assailants. The Police Professional Standards Bureau, PPSB, has also commenced an investigation into the conduct of the Police Officer.
Both the criminal investigation and the professional standards investigation will run concurrently.
