The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Doctors Association has suspended, with immediate effect, its industrial action.

The suspension follows consultations with members of the Association and consideration of the impact of a prolonged strike on patient care.

A statement signed and issued in Kumasi by Chairman of the Association, Dr. Michael Leat, noted also that the decision is as well based on fruitful engagements with other key stakeholders, .including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Board and Management of the hospital who played a role in facilitating engagement and dialogue, while showing commitment towards addressing the issues that resulted in the strike action.

It said while members of the Association remain committed to addressing the key concerns, public health, patients’ safety and the broader public interest are priorities for which the industrial action has been put on hold.

The statement expressed appreciation to all who showed solidarity with the doctors including the National Executive Council of the Ghana Medical Association, the nurses and Midwives Association and other professional groupings.
