Kejetia Market to reopen after fire incident

The Kejetia Market will open for trading activities from Tuesday, March 22, 2023. The decision was reached after Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia engaged the Management of the facility and the Ghana National Fire Service on the cause of the fire outbreak.

The Kejetia City Market was gutted by fire last Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

Following this, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah after visiting the facility with members of the Regional Security Council asked that the facility be closed for 3 days., which expired on March 20, 2023.

While traders were preparing to go to the various shops to commence business, management of the facility in a release signed by Vice President Nana Agyenim Boateng asked that the facility be closed for another week for the non-affected areas while the affected areas be closed indefinitely to safeguard lives and properties.

Following this, the leadership of Combined Traders Association also issued a counter statement urging its members to return to the facility this morning.

This brought some agitation.

The Vice President Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia who is currently in Kumasi with other stakeholders met all the relevant stakeholders and asked that the facility be opened for commercial activities.
