Former Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the Energy Commission, Mr. Kofi Agyarko, is now the Chief Executive of the newly established Center for Shared Responsibility and Technology Ambition (CSRTA) a public-interest organization dedicated to advancing climate action through innovation, collaboration, and inclusive leadership.

Mr. Agyarko, who earlier this year announced his retirement from public service, said although he had stepped down from government duties, his work in the climate and sustainability space was far from over.

According to him, the idea for CSRTA was inspired by the successful collaboration between the Ghana Energy Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which led Africa’s efforts to prevent environmentally harmful product dumping.

He explained that while governments continue to play a key role in addressing such issues, the non-profit and public-interest sectors have an equally vital role to sustain and expand progress.

“CSRTA will work with Earth Champion organizations and global partners to help protect our planet from climate tipping points,” Mr. Agyarko said. “We will focus on amplifying Africa’s voice in climate negotiations by empowering a new generation of African climate champions, and ensuring the continent benefits from next-generation, climate-friendly technologies across multiple sectors.”

Mr. Agyarko expressed excitement about leading CSRTA, noting that the initiative represents a new chapter in his lifelong commitment to climate and sustainable energy advocacy.

He said he looks forward to working with partners across the world to secure a more sustainable and equitable future for Africa and the planet.
