A Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Madam Patricia Amponsah has sentenced 2 armed robbers to 31 years imprisonment in hard labour.
They are Evans Alhassan an electrician, also known as Baba aged 25 and a Miner Mohammed Yussif aged 19. Among their offences are conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery and causing unlawful harm.
Briefing the Court about the facts of the matter, the Prosecuting Officer, Chief Inspector Michael Koole explained that, on the 2nd of July, 2019, Evans Alhassan and Mohammed Yussif went out on a robbery expedition at Asokore Mampong, near Kumasi.
Upon the accused persons entering a compound house, Yussif attacked one Frank Agyemang Adu-Poku and his girlfriend Benedicta Adutwumaa at knife-point and took from them their mobile phones and cash.
Chief Inspector Koole said when Frank Agyemang Adu Poku resisted a demand from the robbers, Yussif stabbed him with a knife on his left hand and left side of his chest and took away a Samsung mobile phone and two thousand Cedis. In the same house, the two convicts robbed one Eunice Darko also of her 2 mobile phones and ₵ 800 and then bolted.
He said Frank Adu Poku was later rushed to the hospital and a formal complaint was made to the police.
Chief Inspector Koole said upon intelligence, Evans Alhassan was arrested and admitted the offence in his cautioned statement and mentioned one Yussif as his accomplice who was also arrested.
A total of ₵300 was found on the 2 after a search was conducted during their arrest.
Chief Inspector Koole said upon further investigations, it revealed that the mobile phones were sold to one Owusu Afriyie also known as Agoogo at Adum PZ area, who in turn also sold it to one David Ayabu also known as 50 Cent, also at Adum PZ.
