Kwabenya jail breakers sentenced to 57 months in prison

The case involving the jail break in Kwabenya has finally ended with the remaining four accused persons sentenced to 57 months in prison.

Two of the accused persons Prince Osei and Prince Acheampong were sentenced to 40 months each taking into consideration the one year spent on remand.

Nancy Dentaو the alleged bread seller who aided them in the escape and Kofi Seshie were also sentenced to 17 months each.

Presiding judge Aboagye Tandoh said the police failed in doing its duty by not checking the ‘in and outط of persons who come to the station.

On January 21 last year, six persons attacked the Kwabenya police station and killed a police officer on duty, Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi.

Thirteen people were arrested in connection with the jail break but six were freed for lack of substantial evidence by prosecution.

The court sentenced three persons, who pleaded guilty, to a total of 96 months. Prince Osei, aka ‘Bebe’, was charged with possession of firearm while Prince Acheampong was also charged with abetment in the possession of firearms.

Nancy Denta and Kofi Seshie also faced charges of abetment to escape from lawful custody.
