Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Alhaji Suleiman Mahama has warned officers of the Commission, that their continuous stay in office will depend on their performance and how innovative they are, to achieve the target set for them.
He said public perception of the Commission is very poor and as Executive Secretary, his aim is to salvage the sinking image of the Commission.
Speaking at the 2018 review meeting of the Commission in Accra, Mr Mahama said the Commission will not fail government in the execution of its task.
Officers of the Lands Commission from all the ten regions are attending the three day review meeting themed, ‘Transformational Land Administration; Setting the agenda towards Ghana beyond Aid’.
Mr Mahama said staff at the Commission cannot just come and show their faces in the office without producing any results. He said the Commission must justify any government budget sent to it.
Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Barbara Oteng Gyasi said the Commission must address the challenges of delay in land registration and restore confidence in the public.
She said the land guards menace is one issue that the Commission must take serious.
Mrs Oteng Gyasi also called on the Lands Commission to lead in the proper demarcation of the new regional boundaries so as not to create confusion.
Board Chairman of the Lands Commission Steve Ntim said the salary of staff of the Commission is nothing to write home about, and is in talks with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to align the salary of staff of the Commission, to those of the VRA and other analogous institutions.
