Lands Ministry resolves controversies surrounding recent directives on Small Scale Mining

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has resolved controversies surrounding recent directives on Small Scale Mining.

When President Akufo-Addo met 16 Regional Ministers and some key Sector Ministers on Small Scale Mining, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, clarified that the Forestry Commission will not issue new Forest Entry Permits which is the final permit for the purpose of mining in Forest Reserves.

According to him, per the directive, there cannot be fresh mining activities in forest reserves except those who are already engaged.

Secondly, the President has directed that no Prospective Recognisance and Exploration can take place in Forest Reserves.
