Lands Ministry revokes prospecting licence of Imperial Heritage

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Kwaku Asumah-Cheremeh has ordered the revocation of the prospecting license of Imperial Heritage mining company for alleged breaching the terms of the licence given them.

He said government will not tolerate the situation where mining companies breach the terms of agreement they have with government and go scout free.

Speaking to ministry’s press corps after visiting the mining site at Apaparaman in the Ashanti Region Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Kwaku Asumah-Cheremeh said the company have no operation permit and no permit from the Chief Director of Mines.

He said further investigation will be conducted to ascertain if the destruction of the Apaparaman forest reserve was by Imperial Heritage or some illegal mining companies have been operating in the forest before the prospecting license was issued.

He said the prospecting license was issued in October 2018 and if when they got to the reserve they saw that such destruction they should have alerted the minerals commission but that did not happened.

The Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie said the forestry guards stopped the operations of the Imperial Heritage mining long before the inter ministerial Committee came in. He despite the limited number of guards they have to man the forest reserves they are doing well to protect the country’s reserves.
