The overlord of Dagbon, Yaa naa Abubakari Mahama, says it is time all traditional authorities joined in the fight against illegal mining and forest degradation.

He said the wanton dissipation of the country’s forest cover by some few individuals for their selfish gains must not be allowed to continue.

Speaking during a courtesy on him by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama said the current situation if not checked with all the serious attention it deserves, the impact of climate change will overtake the country by surprise.

He pledged his support to the ministry at restoring the country’s forest cover.

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, said Chiefs are pivotal when it comes to efficient management of the country’s resources.

He said there is a huge iron ore deposit in Yendi which government intends to explore and therefore will need the support of the Yaa Naa for efficient exploitation of the iron deposit.

The Minister was later decorated with a special smock by the Yaa Naa.
