165 Ghanaians deported from Libya

By Gloria Amoh

Ghana’s Embassy in Tripoli, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has repatriated 165 Ghanaian nationals from Libya to Ghana.

The Ministry of Information, in a press statement, said that the returnees are expected to arrive at Kotoka International Airport at 1500 hours GMT.

This new repatriation effort follows a series of successful repatriations in 2023, which included the returnees of 169 Ghanaians in October and 134 individuals from Misrata earlier that same month. These initiatives were carried out under the Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) program. These brought about a total of 629 Ghanaians who will benefit from the voluntary humanitarian return (VHR) in 2023.

In this repatriation process, they gave priority to persons in detention centres, sick persons, families with children, stranded persons, and destitutes who needed assistance to return to Ghana.
