President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the Akatsi North District Police Headquarters at Ave-Dakpa in the Volta Region, describing the project as a testament to the importance of completing inherited public infrastructure.
Speaking at the inauguration, President Mahama reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring that changes in political administration do not result in the abandonment of viable public projects.
He noted that the police headquarters, which was conceived in 2014 but left uncompleted for several years, demonstrates why successive governments must continue projects that serve the public interest.
“In every functioning democracy, a change of government should never become the reason why important public projects are abandoned,” he said.
The President explained that abandoning projects not only delays essential services but also increases construction costs and leaves taxpayers without the benefits of investments already made.
Describing security as one of Ghana’s greatest national assets, President Mahama commended the Ghana Police Service for its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that the country’s reputation as one of Africa’s safest and most peaceful nations is built on the dedication of its security services.
He called for stronger collaboration between the police and the public, urging residents to volunteer credible information to help combat crime, drug abuse and other illegal activities.
President Mahama also reminded police officers that professionalism, accountability and respect for human rights must remain at the core of policing.
“The authority and equipment entrusted to the police are intended to protect citizens and not to intimidate or mistreat them,” he stressed.
The President said the new District Police Headquarters will provide officers with a conducive working environment to enhance policing and improve security in the district.
He urged officers to take good care of the facility, stressing that proper maintenance is essential to preserving public infrastructure.
“Proper maintenance is just as important as construction because public infrastructure must continue serving future generations,” President Mahama said.
He expressed confidence that the new headquarters would strengthen law enforcement, improve police service delivery and deepen public confidence in the Ghana Police Service across the Akatsi North District.
