The President, John Dramani Mahama, has ordered the closure of the National Cathedral Secretariat and dissolved its Board of Trustees following serious issues raised in an audit report.

Government Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, made the announcement at a press briefing on Friday, July 18, 2025. He said the secretariat, which operated from the Jubilee House, was officially shut down on May 1, 2025.

“The audit findings shake the very foundation of the project and raise serious concerns about how public funds were used,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.

He also revealed that the National Cathedral of Ghana, which was registered as a company limited by guarantee, will now face legal action to ensure its complete dissolution.

“The Attorney General has been instructed to begin legal steps to fully dissolve the company. This will be done in the coming days,” he added.

The move comes amid growing public debate over the management of the National Cathedral project and how funds allocated for it were used.
