President John Dramani Mahama has assured contractors working on the Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu–Wa road project of timely payment to ensure the completion of the critical road link connecting the Upper East and Upper West Regions.
The President, accompanied by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, made the assurance while inspecting ongoing works on the project as part of his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper East Region.
President John Dramani Mahama says the Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu–Wa road project remains a priority under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme, with a commitment to ensure that contractors are paid promptly to keep work progressing.
The President said the road is strategically important because it provides a major link between the Upper East and Upper West Regions, serving motorists travelling from Bolgatanga through Tumu to Wa.
The entire stretch from Navrongo to Wa has been divided into several lots and awarded to different contractors, with the section inspected by the President being executed by MyTurn Construction.
President Mahama recalled that the sod was cut for the project in 2016, but work stalled after his administration left office.
He said the project has now been revived under the Big Push programme, which prioritises critical road infrastructure and provides annual budgetary allocations to ensure the availability of funds.
According to President Mahama, contractors working on Big Push projects will receive payment within 30 days after submitting certified payment certificates, allowing them to mobilise back to the site and sustain the pace of construction.
He commended MyTurn Construction for its work and expressed confidence in the company’s management, particularly its female leadership following the death of its founder.
The President urged the contractor to maintain the current pace of work, saying timely completion could position the company to benefit from subsequent phases of the Big Push programme.
He said engineers have assured him that the project is progressing according to schedule and expressed the hope that the road would be ready for commissioning next year.
President Mahama further expressed the ambition of completing the entire Navrongo-to-Wa stretch by 2028 to provide motorists with a smooth and reliable connection between the two regional capitals.
He said government’s broader objective is to link all regional capitals with good roads while improving major district roads.
The President assured residents of the Upper East Region that roads selected under the first phase of the Big Push would be completed, adding that government is already preparing a second phase, with a possible third phase to ensure that more critical roads across the country are captured.
By the completion of the five-year Big Push programme, President Mahama said he expects significant improvements in the country’s road network and greater satisfaction among motorists and communities.
