The President, John Dramani Mahama, has revealed that more men in the police force have lost their lives while on duty due to the lack of tools and equipment in the force.

“Too often, we have lost men in the line of duty due to lack of tools and equipment,” he said.

He mentioned this during the launch of 40 armored vehicles, which he handed over to the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

According to him, it forms part of efforts to enhance national security and protect officers in the line of duty.

In his address, President Mahama emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing security forces, stating, “These armored vehicles represent our resolve to equip our brave men and women in uniform with the tools they need to protect Ghanaians and maintain peace.”

He urged officers to use the equipment responsibly and professionally, acknowledging the high cost and difficulty in procuring such resources.

“These equipment are expensive and hard to procure, so you must use them judiciously and according to the rule of law,” he told the police force in attendance at the police headquarters.

He added that the donation forms part of his commitment during his manifesto to retool the police service, adding that the deployment of the vehicles will be supported by upgraded communications equipment, faster response mechanisms, and coordinated intelligence sharing across security agencies.

Present at the handover, Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, expressed gratitude for the vehicles and assured that the vehicles would significantly boost police operations, enabling robust and targeted actions against crime nationwide.

He also assured the President that the vehicles would be maintained and strategically deployed.
