President John Mahama has expressed concern over the quality of resettlement efforts for victims of recent tidal waves in the Volta Region.

He believes the current plan is not good enough and does not provide a safe home for affected residents.

President Mahama visited Agavedzi and other areas hit by the disaster, where over 300 people lost their homes.

After assessing the damage, he criticised the ongoing resettlement project, which is reportedly funded by Ghana Gas.

According to him, the location chosen for the new homes is a flood-prone area, making it unsafe for long-term living.

“I don’t think the project was well thought through. The work is poor, and even the place where the new homes are being built is in a flood area. If there is another flood, it will destroy those buildings too, so they are not suitable for the victims.”

He called for a better relocation plan and continuation of work on the second phase of the sea defence wall to protect coastal communities.
