The revival of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has highlighted the role of Ghanaian engineers, technicians and workers whose expertise and commitment have been central to restoring operations at the country’s strategic petroleum facility.

President John Dramani Mahama, who commissioned the refurbished Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) at TOR, praised the refinery’s workforce for keeping faith in the institution during years of operational difficulties.

He said the determination of workers, together with professional management and strategic partnerships, has helped restore confidence in one of Ghana’s most important industrial assets.

“There is something profoundly inspiring about seeing these furnaces burning again, about hearing the hum of production, and about watching Ghanaian engineers, technicians and workers once more doing what they have always demonstrated they can do with excellence.”

President Mahama said the success of TOR demonstrates that institutions facing challenges can be rebuilt when there is effective leadership, sound governance and a shared national vision.

He noted that for years, TOR was considered by many as an institution whose best days were behind it due to production challenges, accumulated debts and deteriorating equipment.

However, he said government chose the path of restoration rather than abandonment.
