The Criminal Division of the Accra High Court has issued a stern warning to Defense Counsel for third and the 14th accused persons, Theophilus Donkor for his absence in the trial of the murder case of the late Major Maxwell Mahama.
The lawyer was nowhere to be found when the case was called for the continuation of the mini-trial.
Counsel was expected to be in court today to cross-examine independent Witnesses who were present when the statements of the accused persons were taken.
The Court presided over by a Justice of the Supreme Court sitting with additional responsibility as a High court judge, Justice Mariama Owusu was unhappy with the absence of the lawyer and warned that she will not entertain any such absenteeism from the defense lawyer nor any of the lawyers.
So far, the state has called 14 witnesses including Chief Inspector Samuel Agyakwah, the Investigator.
There have been series of objections from defense lawyers on the tendering of Investigations and caution statements of the Accused persons, which has resulted in a mini-trial to deal with the documents before the substantive trial resumes.
The case has been adjourned to the 31st of this month.
