McDan opens Shea Nut Processing Center at Nasia in Northern Region

A Shea nut Processing factory aimed at boosting the efforts of women in the production of shea butter and adding value to their shea nuts has been commissioned at Nasia in the Northern region.

The factory which has been handed over to the CEO of Alko Shea, Hamza Akoligo, follows a challenge he took part in and won in the McDan Entrepreneurship Challenge season one. At a short durbar to hand over the edifice at Nasia, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of McDan Group of Companies, Daniel Mckorley, said he will continue to support young entrepreneurs to make an impact in their communities.

The McDan Group of companies is supporting the facility with the state of the art shea butter Processing equipment and a Kia Truck. The facility, which is worth about GHC 550,000 will create more than 100 direct and indirect employment for the youth particularly women in the shea butter business. Hamza Akoligo, a young entrepreneur who established Alkoh Shea Butter centre won the maiden edition of the McDan Entrepreneurship Challenge in February 2020. The gesture is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to empower young entrepreneurs to scale up their business modules. The Group Chairman, McDan Mckorley, said women’s issues are at the heart of his development agenda and hence the need to support Alkoh Shea Butter to empower them.

CEO of Alkoh Shea Butter, Hamza Alkoligo, expressed gratitude to McDan for the gesture. He promised to put the facility to good use in order to benefit more women in and beyond.

Health Screening

Meanwhile, thousands of women and widows have benefited from a health screening exercise organized by the McDan Foundation in Tamale. They were screened from basic ailments including high blood pressure, hypertension, as well as cases of stroke. Referrals were given in cases that needed further attention.
