The Upper East Regional Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) Muktawakil Abdulai has noted with concern the increasing spate of road accidents in the Region describing the situation as worrying.

This week, Mr Abdulai said there have been two accidents in two days recorded in the Nanjupiung community, in the Builsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region involving motorbikes.

He also said in the early hours of Tuesday, January 26, a Bawku bound passenger bus crashed into the Nasia Bridge near Walewale in the North East Region resulting in the death of 10 persons with 30 individuals sustaining several degrees of injuries.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Mr Abdulai indicated that the number of people dying from road accidents far outweigh that of those dying from COVID-19, attributing the situation to moral indiscipline in society.

While reminding the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) to strictly enforce the road safety regulations, Mr Abdulai charged civil society organization to stand up to the task of fighting the moral indiscipline.

He further called on the various Assemblies to enforce the bye-laws on traffic regulation to compliment the public sensitization drive by the National Road Safety Authority.
