The 3rd African Media Convention commenced on May 15, 2024 at Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra with an emphasis on fostering collaborations and shaping the future of media across the continent.

Speaking at the 3rd African Media Convention, Miss Leslie Richer highlighted the crucial role of media literacy in journalism, stating, “Media literacy is not just about understanding how to use various forms of media, but also about analyzing, evaluating, and creating relevant messages to promote action and impact.”

She emphasized the need to empower individuals with media literacy skills to navigate the complex information landscape confidently, ensuring they are less susceptible to manipulation.

Miss Richer mentioned the importance of media literacy in safeguarding against the spread of misinformation and disinformation, urging for concerted efforts to promote it across the continent.

“Media literacy is crucial for promoting diversity and inclusion in the media, by understanding how media messages are construed and disseminated.”

She added: “Individuals can advocate for more accurate and inclusive portrayals. This is essential, especially when it comes to the issue of combating stereotypes and promoting understanding across cultural, racial and socioeconomic advice”

She also commended the African Editors Forum, Ghana Journalists Association and UNESCO for their tireless efforts in addressing key issues facing the media industry in Africa.
