A mentally ill man was Thursday evening knocked dead on the Achimota-Ofankor Road.

He was said to be running across the footbridge at Spot M bus stop, which is about 500 meters from the Ofankor Roundabout.

The deceased, seen with visibly broken legs was lying in a pool of blood on the shoulders of the road at the time Graphic Online got to the scene.

The driver of the Toyota Hiace with registration number GW 8258-19 belonging to 2M Express, a transport company, declined to comment but some eyewitnesses told Graphic Online that the deceased was running across the busy road when he was knocked down.

“All I heard was a loud scream and the man fell. It was so fast. The driver couldn’t have done anything about it,“ the eyewitness said.

Such was the impact of the crash that the passenger and driver airbags of the vehicle deployed.

The vehicle was left in the middle of the road, awaiting police presence for almost two hours while some volunteers directing traffic.
