In an effort to deal with the plastic waste menace and ensure that the President’s dream of making Accra the Cleanest City in Africa, comes true, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie undertook a familiarisation tour of some companies within Ashaiman and Tema which are helping to curb the waste canker.

Nelplast Ghana Limited was the first point of call.  He was received by the C.E.O of the Company, Nelson Boateng who briefed the Minister how he turns plastic waste into bricks for construction.  He added that expanding to take in more plastic waste was his challenge and called for government intervention. The Minister, after touring the facilities, urged the CEO to put finishing touches to the product and promised him of the government’s support.  The Minister continued his tour to SRG Ghana Limited, where he commended the CEO of the Company, Bipin Shanghavi and urged him to do more on their part, ahead of the government’s support.

Mr. Shanghavi also added that his Company would continue to invest more into plastic waste, to avoid pollution.  The Minister moved to the third and the last company for the day, Zenith Plastic Ghana Limited, which is also into the same recycling of plastic waste.  When the Minister was asked about his overview of the tour, he said, ”all the companies visited were doing well”.

He spoke of the government’s plan to position such Companies, to ensure they continue to support the Private Sector to propel growth.
