At least five persons have been trapped to death at the Nangurumah mining site in the Mamprugu Moaduri District of the North East region.
The five are said to be indigenes of Yizesi, a community in the district.
In an interview with GBC News, the North East Regional Director for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), said an investigation into the disaster is underway.
