Work will soon begin on a modern market and a bus terminal project at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.

The project, when completed, will ensure traders engaged in various forms of businesses ply their trade in a decent environment.

The Eastern regional minister cut the sod for the project.

The project, funded by the World Bank and the Government of Ghana will be completed in nine months.

Soman Consult Limited are the contractors.  It forms part of a one-hundred-million-dollar facility to be allocated to 25 out of 56 municipalities in the country.

The new market and bus terminal aim to ease congestion at the market which forces traders to ply their businesses on the shoulders of the road.

Some commercial vehicles also park on the road due to lack of space, especially on market days.

The traders and commercial vehicles are to be relocated to a temporary site when construction begins.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Seth Acheampong urged the contractors to complete the project on schedule.

The Member of Parliament for Oda, Mr. Alexander Akwesi Acquah admonished authorities to ensure fair and transparent allocation when the project is completed.
